INSTRUCTORS

EMILY LAVERDIERE
first fell in love with improv at an early age while growing up in Beverly, but musical improv is by far her truest passion. Since beginning her formal training at Improv Boston back in 2011, she has been performing musical improv with various groups worldwide, from Boston all the way to Cape Town, South Africa. Emily is a graduate of Salem State University’s theatre performance program and has written book and lyrics for multiple full-length musicals staged throughout the Boston area. In addition to coaching independent musical improv teams, she is currently a cast member of Union Comedy’s “Mish Mash”, an all-ages musical adventure, and Catalyst Comedy’s “Dirty Disney”, a very much NOT all-ages show where improvised parodies of your favorite Disney songs may or may not ruin your childhood.

STEVE GILBANE
has been teaching musical improv since 2000 to improvisers yearning to incorporate song stylings into their improv skill set. He joined ImprovBoston in 1992, when he helped that cast create their signature 1-act improvised musical, spun from a famous story and list of musical styles from the audience. He has taught musical improv to troupes, high schools, and festivals across the continent, as well as being a resident instructor at ImprovBoston. He has written music for 11 of ImprovBoston’s annual Halloween Gorefest scripted musical extravaganzas. He attended Berklee College of Music for Film Scoring, and has composed the score for the documentary series Slatersville, for which he won 2 New England Emmys
