SUMMARY:June Supper Club at Marblehead Arts Association
DESCRIPTION:What’s cooking??? \nIf you missed the last gathering\, not to worry—this is a monthly tradition. On the first Monday of each month\, we’ll come together to share food\, ideas\, and good company. Here’s how it works: \n\nPotluck style – bring a dish to share\nBYOB – please do not sign up for beveages\, just bring what you like to sip. Do sign up for food.\nLimited to 30 guests – a sign-up sheet will help us manage space\nMonthly themes – this month the theme is Seasonal & Local: June Harvest\nJune’s bounty—strawberries\, herbs\, tender greens\, early vegetables—sets the stage for a fresh\, vibrant\, and cohesive menu. \nArt tie-in: If you are an artist who works with natural materials\, botanical subject\, or eco-inspred themes\, we invite you to bring a piece to showcase. It’s a wonderful way to highlight the connection between local food and local creativity. \nWe’ve got two kitchens\, ovens\, microwaves\, and plenty of enthusiasm. Whether you’re a seasoned chef or a takeout aficionado\, there’s a place for you at the table.\n\nTo avoid duplication\, please let others know what you plan to bring. Please provide a list of ingredients for your delicious offerings — a simple handwritten index card is perfect. Several of our members have dietary restrictions or allergies\, and we want to make sure everyone can enjoy whatever fits their needs. \nLet’s turn Mondays into something to look forward to. We’re excited to see what you bring—and who you meet. \nArtist Credit: Layers to the Heart by Alessandra Donovan

SUMMARY:Underwater in Salem Sound: Drifters — Ocean Currents in the Gulf of Maine and STEM Education
DESCRIPTION:** This is a hybrid program which can be attended in person OR online via Zoom. \n Attend in person by registering below. \nAttend online via Zoom by registering HERE \nThis past winter and spring\, Salem Sound Coastwatch’s School to Sea program led a Drifter Program with local students in the Salem Sound community with the help of an awarded MIT Sea Grant. The drifters are low cost and student-built devices that track currents via satellite telemetry. While giving real-time data on currents in the Gulf of Maine that contributes to NOAA’s Integrated Ocean Observing System and validates numerical models\, students are also able to collect and analyze the data for their own education purposes. This program has been running since 2004 and was founded by the Gulf of Maine Lobster Foundation\, the Southern Maine Community College (SMCC)\, and NOAA’s Northeast Fisheries Science Center\, and since then\, more than 1\,500 different drifters have been deployed by about 100 schools! \nRegistration is required. Attendance to join in person is limited to 50 attendants\, or attend online via Zoom. Please register to join IN PERSON BELOW or join via Zoom HERE. If registering for Zoom\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting online. \nAlex Borreil is an Educator for the School to Sea program for Salem Sound Coastwatch and holds a bachelor’s in Environmental Studies from Hobart and William Smith Colleges. In addition to being an educator\, she was also the Principal Investigator for the drifter program. Previous to coming to Salem\, Borreil spent a collective six years leading and creating field and classroom-based marine science courses and research projects for students in the Caribbean and Florida Keys. As a New England Native\, her goal is to inspire young scientists to continue learning and protecting their local coastlines through hands-on educational experiences. \nFor the past fourteen years\, Underwater in Salem Sound has been co-sponsored by Salem Sound Coastwatch and Abbot Public Library. All the lectures are free and open to the public. For more information\, please visit www.salemsound.org. \nFor more events\, please visit abbotlibrary.org/events.

SUMMARY:Author Talk with Jennifer Crystal: "One Tick Stopped the Clock: A Memoir"
DESCRIPTION:It’s tick season! With tick populations on the rise here in New England and beyond\, it’s important to be aware not just of Lyme but of all tick-borne diseases. Once considered a “woods of New England” problem\, Lyme disease has now been reported in every state except Hawaii\, with 476\,000 new cases every year—more than HIV and breast cancer combined. Author Jennifer Crystal learned the hard way what can happen when you miss a tick bite. Join Crystal as she reads from her memoir\, “One Tick Stopped the Clock\,” explains the signs and symptoms of tick-borne illness\, and gives tips for safely enjoying the outdoors. \nFollowing the reading and talk\, Crystal will answer your questions\, and copies of her book will be on sale. \nBitten by a tick at age 19 but not diagnosed with Lyme and other tick-borne diseases until mid-twenties\, Jennifer Crystal fell from the pinnacle of post-college momentum to the precipice of despair. Sidelined from her dream job as a ski instructor in the Rocky Mountains\, Crystal fought not only for her health but also for validation and support. She struggled with the identity loss that occurs when you can no longer fulfill expectations or do what you love. “One Tick Stopped the Clock” is a narrative of resilience and perseverance that demonstrates what it means to refocus broken dreams and create a new normal. Blending medical mystery with wit\, sensitivity\, and a sharp understanding of the human experience\, “One Tick Stopped the Clock” offers hope and inspiration for anyone who can’t go back but instead must move forward at a new pace. \nJennifer Crystal is now a local author\, educator\, and writing coach. She runs the Writing to Heal Immersive Program at Grub Street Creative Writing Center. For more than a decade\, she has written a weekly column for the Global Lyme Alliance. She is a Senior Writer for Harvard Health Publishing\, where she also served as the Patient Experience Representative for the Lyme Wellness Initiative. Crystal’s story has appeared in many outlets including anthologies\, webinars\, and podcasts. She is happily back on her skis. Learn more at www.jennifercrystal.com. \nFor more events\, please visit abbotlibrary.org/events.

SUMMARY:Lectures with Road Scholar: Frank Kameny — Trailblazing the Gay Rights Movement
DESCRIPTION:In 1958\, astronomer Frank Kameny was dismissed from the U.S. Army Map Service after refusing to answer questions about his sexual identity under President Eisenhower’s Executive Order 10450. That dismissal set him on a new course: Kameny became one of the nation’s first openly gay LGBT+ rights activists\, founding a grassroots advocacy group and organizing the first demonstration for gay rights in front of the White House. Join Carolyn Crouch to explore how Kameny’s fight\, sparked by the Lavender Scare of the 1950s\, grew into a decades-long struggle for equality that would one day be recognized by President Barack Obama. This lecture will trace the pivotal moments of Kameny’s journey and the lasting impact of his activism. \nA viewing of the online lecture will be held in the Event Center at Abbot Public Library\, followed by a discussion session. \nRegistration is required and limited to 35. Please register below. Can’t attend in person? Please register for the program or join the Wait List. Everyone who is registered will be sent the recording. \nCarolyn Crouch is the founder of Washington Walks\, with a deep appreciation for D.C.’s rich history. After earning a master’s in acting from The Catholic University of America\, her passion for walking expeditions took root. A scholar in English and art history\, she also updates Fodor’s 25 Best Washington\, D.C. guide. Serving on the D.C. History Center’s board\, Crouch’s influence extends beyond travel\, impacting the historical community at large. A New England native\, she brings a diverse perspective to her work. \nThis program is sponsored by the Friends of Abbot Public Library.\n \nFor more events\, please visit abbotlibrary.org/events.

SUMMARY:Sing It! A Musical Improv Workshop
DESCRIPTION:w/ Emily Lavardiere and Stephen Gilbane \n\nLooking to take your improv skills to the next level? Ever been in the middle of a particularly emotional scene and just wanted to burst into song? Well\, this workshop may strike a chord (or two) with you! Sing It! A Musical Improv Workshop will offer an introductory dive into the basic building blocks of musical improv\, focusing on a series of exercises and song structures that will have you creating beautiful and hilarious songs on the spot in no time! No prior musical improv training is required to attend. Whether you’re just dipping your toes in for the first time or brushing up on your skills\, you’re in for a fun-filled evening that will leave you feeling like you’re on Broadway singing the made-up songs in your hearts! \n\n\nINSTRUCTORS\n\nEMILY LAVERDIERE first fell in love with improv at an early age while growing up in Beverly\, but musical improv is by far her truest passion. Since beginning her formal training at Improv Boston back in 2011\, she has been performing musical improv with various groups worldwide\, from Boston all the way to Cape Town\, South Africa. Emily is a graduate of Salem State University’s theatre performance program and has written book and lyrics for multiple full-length musicals staged throughout the Boston area. In addition to coaching independent musical improv teams\, she is currently a cast member of Union Comedy’s “Mish Mash”\, an all-ages musical adventure\, and Catalyst Comedy’s “Dirty Disney”\, a very much NOT all-ages show where improvised parodies of your favorite Disney songs may or may not ruin your childhood.\n\n\nSTEVE GILBANE has been teaching musical improv since 2000 to improvisers yearning to incorporate song stylings into their improv skill set. He joined ImprovBoston in 1992\, when he helped that cast create their signature 1-act improvised musical\, spun from a famous story and list of musical styles from the audience. He has taught musical improv to troupes\, high schools\, and festivals across the continent\, as well as being a resident instructor at ImprovBoston. He has written music for 11 of ImprovBoston’s annual Halloween Gorefest scripted musical extravaganzas. He attended Berklee College of Music for Film Scoring\, and has composed the score for the documentary series Slatersville\, for which he won 2 New England Emmys\n

SUMMARY:Girl Named Tom Spring Tour 2026
DESCRIPTION:From a small-town minivan to sold-out theaters\, Girl Named Tom’s rise has been nothing short of remarkable. Siblings Bekah\, Caleb\, and Joshua Liechty grew up making music together but officially formed their band in 2019\, hitting the road with a self-funded tour and their debut EP\, Another World. Their tight harmonies and heartfelt songwriting captivated audiences\, leading them to make history as the first group to win The Voice. \nSince then\, the trio has sold over 100\,000 tickets across 40 states\, headlined nationwide tours\, and performed at the Grand Ole Opry\, the Indianapolis 500\, and on The Ellen Show. They’ve shared the stage with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra\, Kelsea Ballerini\, Lady A\, and Pentatonix\, but their signature sound remains unmistakably their own—fusing folk\, pop\, and sibling magic to create music that moves the soul. \nIn April 2026\, Girl Named Tom will hit the road on a nationwide tour promoting their new album\, Dust to Dust. The momentum will keep rolling with a performance on NBC’s The Voice in early April\, alongside an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show shortly thereafter.
